The K-1 visa allows a U.S. citizen to bring their foreign fiancé(e) to the U.S. for marriage within 90 days. After marriage, the spouse can adjust status to a green card.

 Step-by-Step K-1 Visa Process  

 1. File Form I-129F (Petition for Alien Fiancé(e))  

  • Submitted by the U.S. citizen sponsor. 
  • Processing time: 6–12 months. 

 2. Consular Processing (DS-160 & Interview)  

  • Fiancé applies at a U.S. embassy/consulate. 
  • Must provide: 
    • Proof of relationship (photos, chats, travel records). 
    • Financial support evidence (Form I-134). 

 3. Enter the U.S. & Marry Within 90 Days 

  • After entry, marriage must occur within 90 days.  

 4. Adjust Status to Green Card (Form I-485) 

  • File after marriage to obtain permanent residency.
